The name Bethany's Hope was chosen for this ministry due to the incredible amount of hope that must have existed in the village of Bethany during Jesus' time here on earth. While the actual meaning of the word "Bethany" has been debated, many have concluded it means "house of affliction" or "house of the poor". Bethany is located less than two miles from Jerusalem facing east on the southeastern slope of the Mount of Olives. It is mentioned eleven times in the New Testament and was where siblings Mary, Martha and Lazarus lived as well as Simon the leper. Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead here and also ascended to heaven from Bethany. Although not directly stated in Scripture, it is very likely Jesus healed many of the "afflicted" in Bethany. With the raising of Lazarus from the dead and the likely healing of many, the level of hope must have been high in Bethany during the Lord's time there. Today we have the hope that Jesus will return, possibly at Bethany since the Word says "This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven.". Acts 1:11
The mission of Bethany's Hope is to bring the Good News of Jesus Christ to the children and their families living in and around Santa Fe, Cebu, Philippines. We encourage, nurture and love them while pointing them to the hope and salvation found in our risen Lord. We encourage the children to pursue their education as a means to eventually help lift themselves and their families out of poverty. We encourage them to attend church and youth activities so they can learn about Jesus and fellowship with other believers in Christ.
The vision of Bethany's Hope is to see children and youth become followers of Jesus Christ. Bethany's Hope sees their relationship with the Lord as the key to life. They are encouraged to attend weekly church services and activities along with gatherings at the Bethany's Hope property for Bible study, lessons, fellowship and fun. Also, by assisting them financially with their educational costs (school supplies, uniforms, shoes, etc.) our hope is that the education they receive will help them become productive members of the community and to also help bring themselves and their families out of poverty. The kids of Bethany's Hope are seen as unique, created individually by God and given gifts to be used to glorify Him. Birthdays are celebrated to remind them that they have significance, value, purpose and are loved.
While the following people are listed as the servants in Bethany's Hope, we recognize and are thankful to God for the many others who have supported this ministry through their prayers and giving.
